Our Women

Our Women: 125 of Dunedin’s Extra-ordinary Women

In September I received a phone call from Hannah Molloy at the Otago Museum asking if I wanted to help photograph 125 women of Dunedin to mark the 125th anniversary of women’s suffrage in New Zealand. It sounded like an amazing project so I said yes straight away.

Photographer and friend, Sinead Jenkins was already on board with the project and I knew we would make a great team.
The idea was to photograph these women in their own environments as much as we could.
Over the space of a few weeks we worked frantically at contacting these women and making times to photograph them on location.

I’m not sure how we managed it but we got all 125 women photographed!!
At the museum exhibition all of the images are accompanied with a short caption about what it means to be a woman in Dunedin.  There are some profound comments that are really powerful.

I met so many amazing and inspirational women photographing this project, it was an honor to be part of it all.

All of the images and captions are now on display at the Otago Museum and the exhibition has just been extended to the 2nd December.

Don’t miss it.
